There’s a highly underrated tool available, that’s completely free, if you’re wondering how to get new bookkeeping and accounting clients into your office in the near future.

I gave the bookkeepers and accountants I know a little experiment to try a while back — to write an email to your contact list. Yes, an email.

Specifically, to write a relational email that addresses what you see on the horizon for your clients, some principles about a relevant tax or business topic, and an invitation for them to schedule a meeting to talk more.

Because it’s been our experience (and the experience of hundreds of our clients) that when you write that kind of email in a consistent way over time — emails that are:

1) personal (not generic),
2) full of useful information,
3) written in a way that regular people can read and understand,
4) with a simple call to action —

you get a response.

Responses that turn the question of “how to get bookkeeping or accounting clients” into a dilemma of the past.

But only an email that ticks those four boxes will get read these days. In the ever-reverberating noise, your marketing has to cut through the piled-up clutter by going around what people expect from their accountant or bookkeeper.

And instead, to give them what they need. Do you know what it is they need?

Your marketing should be eliciting a positive, two-way conversation with your contacts. The kind that builds an ongoing relationship with them … which then produces new business, upsells, and referrals.

That’s actually what effective email marketing can produce for you, and in this very timely season.

But if you’re still not convinced, let me share what our clients say about this kind of email communication…

  • “The content of the newsletters is usually right in line with my opinions and beliefs and is received very well by my clients. We get great comments on those each week.” – Jeff

  • “The weekly done-for-you emails are loved by our clients.” – Steve

  • “Their very effective email campaigns are helping me keep in touch with my clients. I have to say I am shocked how many clients email me after receiving those!” – Glennda

  • “I thought marketing emails were stupid and would never work. But then my clients started responding with stuff like, ‘These are great. Love the emails.’ I fully expected snarky responses but it’s only been positive. I was shocked, and I realized I should have been doing this earlier.” – Roland

Our clients have learned how to get new bookkeeping and accounting clients — on the absolute simplest path possible.

But let’s get real — you don’t have time to do this well … do you?

That’s what we’re here for.
